Emotion Regulation Group Therapy

Emotion Regulation Group Therapy takes a stand in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) but also have influences of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). It was developed as a method to work with difficulties dealing with, and regulating, emotions with a goal of increasing awareness and acceptance of emotions and find healthy strategies to deal with emotions.

I’ve been trained under Kim L. Gratz, and Matthew Tull, that created the method, and I have previously worked with ERGT-groups that took place two hours once a week during a 16 week period. At this point I’m not offering any group therapy but I use strategies based in ERGT if it’s considered helpful in the therapy work I’m doing with my clients.

The thing that I like with ERGT is that it provides a structured way of exploring, understanding and learning to regulate our emotions. Many of my clients have found ERGT or individual ERGT-strategies helpful in their therapy work. Since ERGT was developed with theory from DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) it provides the clients with several hands on strategies to regulate and deal with painful and intense emotions.

As in all the methods I work with we will start with talking about you individual goals and preferences for therapy method. I will give you suggestions based in what themes we’ll decide to work with. The first sessions we will explore goals and your life history, both when it comes to relations, work, interest, family history but also more practical parts of life that affects us such as daily routines.
